Copyright Notes- Jason Hardin
Sadly, I missed Tuesday morning's class session with Jason Hardin due to sickness. However, from looking over some of the notes and links posted on the homepage, I have become much more familiar with copyrights. Copyright is an official U.S. law and should be taken seriously. One of the main reasons copyright was passed as a law was to encourage writers and artists of all types to keep working on new pieces in their respected fields. According to the U.S. Copyright Office, copyrights are valid for the lifetime of the author plus an additional 70 years. This is good because the author retains their rights to their work for their life without having to worry about people stealing their thoughts and ideas. However, it is also a bad thing because the public cannot use and re-distribute copyrighted work until a large amount of time has passed. I feel that both ways are respectable and logical, but I have to side with the existing law. Authors and artists deserve the designated amount of time for copyrights, in my opinion. They spend too much time and hard work in completing their final pieces. I feel that the current law should remain in effect.
